The TailorClip playbook: how to get the best results from one upload

TailorClip is designed to give you a great edit on the very first tap. But a few habits take it from "good" to "exactly what I would have made." Here's the workflow we'd use, start to finish — every step is a feature that ships today.

1. Upload the real thing, not a pre-trimmed clip

Give TailorClip the full recording. It reads the whole video — the words and the picture — to find genuine reactions, expressive pauses, and the strongest hook. Pre-cut footage hides the exact moments it's best at finding. If your source runs longer than about eight minutes, it will ask one question first: long-form or shorts? Answer honestly — it changes the entire edit plan.

2. Choose "Just Make It" or "Tailor It"

  • ✦Just Make It — one tap, a batch of finished, deliberately different edits. Best when you want options fast.
  • ✦Tailor It — say what you want in plain language first: "lead with the phone drop, keep one under 30 seconds, punchy captions." No sliders, no jargon.

3. Read the rationales, then pick a winner

Every cut ships with a one-line reason it exists — "Opens on the drop at 4:12 — the strongest hook in your footage." Skim those instead of scrubbing ten timelines. You'll usually get a full cut, shorts, and a wildcard; the wildcard is worth a look — it's the one that surprises people.

4. Fix wording in the transcript, not the timeline

Misheard a brand name or a bit of slang? Open the Studio's Transcript tab, double-click the word, retype it. There's a captions-only fast path that re-renders just the caption layer, so a typo fix takes seconds instead of a full render.

5. Set your guardrails once

  • ✦Excluded words — words Tailor must never put on screen; it scrubs them from hooks and end cards automatically.
  • ✦Default platform & caption look — set once in Settings, applied to every new project.
  • ✦Thumbs up / down — react to cuts and styles. Each reaction sharpens a taste profile you can see and edit in Settings.

6. Finish it in the Studio

Add music that ducks under your voice, a voiceover (record in the browser or upload one), your own photos or logo, a color look with automatic shot-matching, or AI b-roll that's relevance-checked before it's placed. Move, reword, retime, or delete any AI title. Re-rendering never re-runs the planner, so your edits always stick.

Do this a few times and TailorClip stops feeling like a tool and starts feeling like an editor who already knows your channel. That's the whole idea.
